Soft-tissue injuries can be terrifying, but you still need to stay calm and do all you can to improve the situation. To help you begin restoring your oral health, our Coppell Smiles team has some tips for you. If you do the following things, you will be on the right track toward success:
-Rinse: Swish mild saltwater solution in your mouth for about one minute. Doing so will clean the injured area and prevent infection. To make the saltwater, simply mix a half of a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water.
-Apply pressure: Apply pressure to the bleeding site for 15 to 20 minutes. Simply hold a gauze pad or tea bag to the area until the bleeding subsides.
-Reduce swelling: Control the bleeding, relieve pain, and reduce swelling by holding an ice pack outside the injured area for about 5 to 10 minutes. If this doesn’t make a difference, take a break and then reapply the ice pack for another interval of time.
-See your dentist: If the bleeding does not stop after you’ve used the mentioned tips, please see your dentist as soon as possible. If the dentist is not available, please visit the emergency room. Continue to apply pressure to the area until you can be seen and treated.
